Alexander Carlsson - "Sociogeology - the walks"

each day at 13:00

You are welcome to a group guided exploration of the geological processes going on in the city. We walk, talk and play with the idea that we humans are a geological force and we learn together through engaging with each other and the materials of the city. - in a time when humans are the strongest and biggest changing force in our planet's surface, moving more material than all the erosion of wind, water and weather combined, there is a need to slow down and engage, discuss and learn with each other and our surroundings to see if this is something to be questioned. Come along for a walk and we will see where we end up, what we do and what we learn. The walks are collectively guided, and will be adapted to the participants needs and wants. The gathering point is Slottsskogens Vandrarhem (Slottskogens Hostel) in the lobby at one o'clock each day from Thursday the 12th of April until Sunday the 15th. Free except for your time and engagement. Welcome to participate. For more information send an email to this e-mail address. email: alexandercreatour@gmail.com

Stig Steijner "IGMMSOY""

I got my mind set on You   Listening to L’amour Toujours by Gigi D’Agostino, suddenly interrupted by what was so thrilling and danceable, clearing the previous path of eurodance that completely owned the dancefloor. Filling my body with a feeling of ecstasy shouting in the chorus, the instant recognition that occurred was something beyond. This is also what Weird Al Yankovic parodying in his song (This song’s just) Six words long. In the song he only sings the main tagline over and over again simulating George Harrison but also, for me, creating his own mantra. I don’t believe he hates the song, more has a fetish for the cheesiness of it. Back to the dancefloor, there is nothing that can compare to this, this ultimate grip of my body, jumping up and down like a teenager listening to Oasis at the Roskilde festival. Walking away from the party we started to chant the chorus together.

I GOT MY MIND SET ON YOU
I GOT MY MIND SET ON YOU
I GOT MY MIND SET ON YOU
I GOT MY MIND SET ON YOU

The next morning I woke up with the chorus echoing trough my head, bouncing around like a ping-pong ball. I got my mind set on you is a project that I started with the firm believe that everybody can sing and be one as a group. The foundation for the project was based in the aesthetics of football tifos/ultras. The wall of colour appearing and the majestic, mantra like singing of fans. Firmly belonging to a group and have a clear goal or achievement together. Something that inspired me a lot to do this work is the wall of colours that you can see on matches, the constant swinging of your scarf or flag, this resulted in designing and printing a scarf with the text ”I got my mind set on you” on it, a text and song mostly known from George Harrison but written by Rudy Clark. What then grasped my attention was the sad faith of the original singer James Ray who died at the age of 23 from a drug overdose. Listening to the version by him really touched me, the fragile but strong voice, singing over the brass instruments about getting money, having patience and time for the ultimate goal: YOU! For me this is where the openness to the song started to work, the adaptation to make the just the chorus my mantra. As a human searching for meaning, I have often looked to religion for a purpose or something bigger to explain certain issues that have occured in my life or just things that I can’t grasp, either by divine intervention or by a organism i.e. nature.

Julio Guzman - "HIIGTE? (How’s it going to end?)"

16:00 - 19:00

The project consists of an app where you can find a VR game, the game is set in a very surrealistic scenario, a sort of heaven very much inspired in the last scene of the movie The Truman Show (1998). The aim of the game is to recreate the physical act of going through the Yellow Pages in a digital setting. I initially started working on the idea of the Swedish Yellow Pages or Gula Sidorna, as a device of cultural content, then I started to make associations related to the internet. HIIGTE? Is a very coded project which hides a lot of cryptic messages within its foundations, aims to knit the analog and the digital world through the performative level of the project. It attempts to raise questions of how we, human beings interact with artefacts today. How’s it going to End invites you to look a little further than the screen.

After all, Google has turned into the new church, where do we go to when we’re asking for answers then?

Maria Safronova (Wahlström) - "Boundary Work"

In the anthropological understanding of construction of any social group, the group is defined in first place by its borders, where they are placed, how hard they are being policed and maintained. This process of “boundary-work” is inseparable from the notion of ascription, where self-ascription and ascription of others become the main critical feature of the group. What matters is not the actual behaviour or facts or how dissimilar members of the group are, but what they say they are and what they say they stand for. Thereby the boundary is a space where characteristics undergo dramatic change, where “us” transforms into “them”.

In this work I am trying to address the notion of the social border as a matter of action, that is being performed constantly, an unstable phenomenon, which exists as a result of everyday work. The viewer is invited to perform or contemplate the process of policing the border, as well as experience the danger such processes always carry. The harder the boundary is being defined by us, the sooner we are going to be destroyed by it’s presence.
